Employer Reimbursement

How to ask your employer to cover the cost of your program.

If you work at a clinic, a hospital, or a medical billing company, your employer may have a budget for professional development. If you know who and how to ask, your employer can cover the cost of your Codingforhealth program. Use this guide to prepare your request.

Step 1

Do your research

Learn about your organization's professional development policies and the types of funding available. Look into any requirements, which might include:

  • Completion requirements: Do you need a minimum grade, or is completing the program enough?
  • Payment policies: Do you pay first and get reimbursed, or does your company pay directly?
  • Type of program: Codingforhealth is a preparation program for the CPC certification exam, which is awarded by AAPC. If your company only covers accredited programs or college credit, ask whether it also covers professional certification preparation.
  • Additional requirements: Is there a minimum length of employment or number of hours worked per week?

Step 2

Gather the documents

These documents make it easier to request reimbursement for your program:

*Provided on request: email info@codingforhealth.com or call 954-644-2007.

Step 3

Talk to your manager

Bring your manager in from the start. Their support carries weight when you submit the request and helps you while you study. If your company doesn't have a formal professional development policy, there may still be options: look for them together.

Step 4

Present your case

Find out who approves these requests at your company: your manager, Human Resources, or a training team. Be clear on why you want the program and how it helps your team: coding with CPT®, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II, clinical documentation review, and denials management. Help your employer see how their support benefits the organization.

Prepare your letter

Enter your details and the letter fills itself in, with the program and its price. Copy it into an email or print it.
